Hi there! Did you know that a naiad (pronounced (NYE-ad) is a baby dragonfly? It’s also a preschool!
Our goal is to foster kindness and confidence in young kids as they navigate their still very new world. Kids will get to explore and connect with the Earth and themselves through creative expression, free play, and emergent curriculum with a focus on the natural world.
Naiad is a full day preschool serving kids from 2 1/2 to 6 years old. We believe that a child’s budding independence at this age flourishes when they are given the freedom to make choices for themselves within a safe and secure environment. A young kid’s day-to-day is largely governed by choices that are not their own, so we have created a space where they can safely explore on their own terms. At our school we prioritize teaching age-appropriate self-help skills, conflict resolution, and empathy for others.
What We Value
Art
Every kid is unique, and every kid deserves the space to express themselves. This applies to artistic expression for sure, but also to the way a kid expresses themselves through play, conversation, and the way they move through the world. At Naiad, we celebrate what makes each kid special and make an effort to meet them where they are rather than expecting them to conform to an imagined “ideal norm”.
Discovery
We see the role of education in a child’s life as instilling a lifelong curiosity about the world and a love of learning. Humans never stop discovering new things, and especially in the early years of life there are so many things to explore! We strive to provide a safe and secure space for kids to discover new things about the world every day, from the tiniest bugs to the biggest feelings.
Independence
As very young kids grow, they learn to do many things for themselves. We strive to encourage that growth by teaching kids to care for themselves and to advocate for their needs. Kids will always have security in knowing that they will get help if they need, but will always have the opportunity to make as many choices as they can for themselves.
Nature
The Earth is a home we all share, and as such deserves respect and kindness from all of us. Care for the Earth is care for the future that kids will grow into, and the home where they will grow up. Just as much as adults can learn to be stewards of the Earth, so can the kids who will grow up to inherit it.
